Education/Training/Experience: BA in Theatre, 1992, Zumba® Basic 2011, Zumba® Gold 2011
Current Studies/Exploration: My goal for 2012 is to become AFAA certified
I'm married and have three children, a cat, two birds, and the largest non-koi goldfish I've ever seen. I'm a sixth generation Schenectady resident and a 2nd generation aerobics instructor. Zumba® Fitness is my passion. It's changed my life for the better and allowed me to meet fitness goals that I had almost given up on.
Education/Training/ Experience: My formal education begins with a BA in Fine Arts with a minor in Religious Studies from San Francisco State University. At a young age I was intrigued by the many ways people express their relationship to spirit/god/self/universe. That curiosity continues today as I approach 50. I have been a student of yoga in many different styles: Hatha, Kripalu, Ashtanga and most recently Shivananda (thank you Gina Mauro!). Several years ago I received Reiki I & II attunements in the Usui tradition with Master Linda Thompson. Recently, my path has led me to Qigong. I attended the Qi Revolution, a 4 day immersion seminar with Jeff Primack. The experience was so profound that I began teacher training and earned certification in Supreme Science Qigong Level I Healing Form. My wish is to share the tools for physical, emotional and spiritual growth that I have found through the practice of Qigong. Other activities that I enjoy include gardening, knitting, cooking and hiking with friends.
Influential Teachers: Judy England, Sister Ellen, Dalai Lama, Jeff Primack, Anne Best, Lisa Alexander, Beth Dawson, Gina Mauro, Jeff Primack, all members of my qigong tribe, nature, my children and husband to name a few.
Current Studies/Exploration: Daily practice of Qigong forms, Supreme Science Level II training in the fall of 2013 and continuing to learn about joy, mischief and humor through my beautiful children.
Education/Training/Experience: My massage career originally grew from a background in yoga and love for emotional and spiritual healing through physical practices. Originally a Sivananda Yoga instructor, I also have attended yoga teacher/therapy trainings in the Anusara tradition as well as at Boston University's Trauma Center. My belief in the body's ability to heal itself with proper care and support led me to study Thai Yoga Therapy at Lotus Palm Thai Yoga Massage School and ultimately to seeking a more comprehensive massage education at Albany's Center for Natural Wellness.
Influential Teachers: My family, friends, pets, nature, clients, students. Stephanie Swafford, Deb Guilfoyle, Brene Brown, Martha Beck, Shakti Gawain, Ram Dass. There are really too many to list, but these are just the ones who come to mind at the moment!
Current Studies: My main passion in bodywork lies in Eastern modalities such as Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Acupressure and Reiki and as I continue to study these practices, I find that there is more and more to learn. I have recently begun studying Kundalini Yoga and Qigong which are expanding my understanding and further piquing my curiosity of how energy functions in the body. Specifically applied to my career, putting these studies into practice on a daily basis when working with clients.
